Birthday Celebration (By Crstina Graiño)

The Fifteenth  Birthday

The topic of my presentation is the birthday party of the girls when they reach fifteen years.

The main points I will talk about are: firstly the place where we celebrate the birthday; secondly the clothes

the girl wears and thirdly how we celebrate that event.

Let’s begin with the party room, this is a large living room with tables around a dance floor. There are tables

for the family of the girl and tables for the guests who are generally in high school. Now let’s move on to the

clothes of the girl, it is a beautiful  white or pink dress, shoes with high heels and her hairstyle is very modern.

Now we’re going to look at how we celebrate this event. The girl comes to the place after the guests.  While

the music  sounds the girl enters and greets all the guests and then begins the  dinner.

Then the dance begins with a waltz with her father and all men present in the party will dance with her. They

dance all night until the cake cutting.

The cake has tapes with hidden gifts. Every girl takes a ribbon and one has a ring. Tradition says that the girl

who get the rings is the first woman to be married.

I’d like to finish by mentioning a curiosity, the party ends on the morning of the next day after breakfast.

TRADITION DAY (By Jemina Monasterio)

THE TOPIC OF MY PRESENTATION IS THE TRADITION DAY IN ARGENTINA
IT IS CELEBRATED ON NOVEMBER 10 BECAUSE ON THAT DAY JOSE HERNANDEZ, CREATOR OF "MARTÍN FIERRO", WAS BORN.

HIS GAUCHO POEM BECAME THE MOST GENUINE LITERARY PIECE OF ARGENTINE FOLKLORE AND WAS TRANSLATED INTO MANY LANGUAGES.

THE MAIN POINTS I WILL TALK ABOUT ARE:
FIRSTLY: THE MEANING OF TRADITION AND SECONDLY, HOW THIS FEAST IS SHOWED BY MEANS OF FOOD.
LET’S BEGIN WITH TRADITION: IT MEANS "GIFT OR BEQUEST".  IT IS THAT WHICH BELONGS TO A PEOPLE, WHAT SETS IT APART FROM OTHERS. IT'S OWN, A SET OF CUSTOMS THAT ARE PASSED FROM PARENTS TO CHILDREN.
SO THE TRADITION OF A NATION IS ITS POPULAR CULTURE, THE LARGE SET OF ALL THE CUSTOMS OF EACH REGION.
NOW LET’S MOVE ON TO WHAT IS THE FEAST OF TRADITION?
IN SOME PLACES THE ONLY PLAYERS OF THE FESTIVITIES ARE THE PEASANTS, ARTISANS, MUSICIANS, DANCERS, PAINTERS, and WRITERS ETC... THAT IS, ALL THAT MAKE UP THE CULTURAL BACKGROUND OF THE PEOPLE AND "THE GAUCHO", PROUD OF THE PAST.
.
THE TRADITIONAL FOOD
MEALS AND DRINKS ARE ALSO PART OF THE TRADITIONS. EVERY PLACE IN THE COUNTRY HAS ITS TYPICAL FOOD. IN THE TRADITIONAL ARGENTINA ARE THE SOUP, PIES, “ASADO”, AND STEW: “LOCRO”, “PASTELITOS”, “TORTAS FRITAS” AND “DULCE DE LECHE” AMONG OTHERS.
THE FOOD IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SHARE WHILE DRINKING MATE, WHICH IS A TYPICAL DRINK THAT CONSISTS OF A CUP WITH YERBA AND A DRINKING STRAW, WHERE SOMEONE PUT HOT WATER AND IT IS PASSED TO ANOTHER PERSON IN A ROUND.
CREOLE AND BROTHERHOOD SYMBOL, MATE HAS EARNED A CENTRAL PLACE IN THE LIVES OF MANY OF US, "THE BITTER" WITH US DAY AND NIGHT, IN OUR LONELINESS AND MEETINGS WITH FRIENDS OR FAMILY, SOME TAKE IT SWEET, WITH OTHER HERBS OR COLD, BUT ONE CERTAIN THING IS THAT WE ALWAYS DRINK IT.
SOME FOODS WHICH WERE ADDED OVER TIME AND HAVE BECOME PART OF THE TRADITION ARE PIZZA, WHICH IS OF ITALIAN ORIGIN, THE CHICKEN WITH MASHED POTATOES AND HAMBURGERS.

I’D LIKE TO FINISH BY SAYING THAT THE PARTY ISN’T COMPLETE WITHOUT THE MUSIC: “ZAMBA”, “CHAMAMÉ”, “CHAMARRITAS”, “EL GATO” , “EL ESCONDIDO”, “EL MINUÉ” ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF THE VARIETY OF THE MUSIC TO CELEBRATE.
WHILE SOMEONE PLAYS “BOMBO” AND GUITARS THE LADIES DANCE WITH COLOURING CLOTHES.
THE BOMBO LEGÜERO IS A POPULAR ARGENTINE FOLKLORE MEMBRANOPHONE ORIGINALLY FROM THE PROVINCE OF SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO. IT OWES ITS NAME TO THE FEATURE THAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE HEARD EVEN A LEAGUE AWAY.
IT IS A REALLY A BEAUTIFUL PARTY WHERE THE PEOPLE CELEBRATE AND SING TOGETHER, IT IS A MOMENT TO SHARE GOOD THINGS.

Worker's Day

The topic of my presentation is worker´s day.

The main points I will talk about are: Firstly, On 1 May 1886 a group of American workers mobilized to demand reduction of the working day to eight hours. Secondly, the protest, held initially by 80,000 workers, soon achieved a national strike that affected many factories.

Let´s begin with the reduction of the working, previously there was a law forbidding work more than 18 hours, except in cases of necessity, but that law was not fulfilled. For this reason, it was decided that from 1 May 1886 the legal duration of the working day should be eight hours. This decision aroused the interest of organizations, which saw the possibility of getting more jobs in the eight hours, reducing unemployment.

Now let's move to the protest, many companies did not meet the new 8-hour days. And many did not accept the union's proposal, which was declared nationwide strike. Although many of these strikes were successful in Chicago, a series of incidents that would end several protesters and policemen dead.
I would like to conclude by saying that on 1 May 1889 is declared as International Workers' Day in honor of the "Martyrs of Chicago". The strength shown by workers in your claim marked a before and after in the history of labour.
